The hardcover version of Precursory Tales

Precursory Tales features two short stories by Garie McIntosh called “Hotel Goodbye” and “Cinder.”

It includes some stellar quotations that come from a variety of sources, including song lyrics. They each have a rallying quality to them that feels appropriate for a publication that places a spotlight on grief—what it is and a deeper understanding of it as an emotional process.

The special-edition hardcover version of Precursory Tales has arrived.

A note on the new book cover

The issue of mental health was not what confronted you when you looked at the original cover, at least that was not the intention. Instead, the author wanted to make his own breaks, as announced by the book’s subtitle. Hence, that intimate portrait of him was meant to invite new readers to his brand of storytelling, which explores the complex relationship between parents and children.

This new design serves as an invitation to a discussion about mental health, even though the original idea of “making my own breaks” still holds. The sculpted feel and the inscribed words attempt to make that discussion feel more relatable.

Hopefully, this cover makes a statement in a way that is simple in its complexity, i.e. the subject of grief, yet powerful. As mentioned in the disclaimer on the copyright page, “the book front and back cover images are inscriptions found around the sculpture La mère et l’enfant at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada.”

The sculpted image of mother and child, which is the name given to the depiction in the French title, is breathtaking to behold. This new cover has been created out of the spirit of that impact.

Find out what grief has to do with love.

As the black trolley backpack with six coloured wheels rumbled over the cobblestone pathway of the hotel entrance, Norma West thought that soon she would be with the one she had lost and that as a result, she would not need it anymore.

Hotel Goodbye

The bedroom window curtain that hung behind the pane of glass like a motionless captive seemed to frame the time that had passed.
